Of course, very soon these high technological products are going to hit the Indian market because in Europe, America and other part of the world they have been proved as successful technology products.
Single source
Even more important, a single source of supply greatly simplifies the solution of problems, such as meeting the requirements of safety legislation. How many companies, for example, are prepared to guarantee that their motor-protection relays will work correctly, under all conditions, with another manufacturers drive? Compatibility has another facet. As controls systems become increasingly integrated and more intelligent there is a need for the various components to exchange information. It is not unusual, for example, for parameters to be passed to a drive from a programmable controller, and for the drive to pass back a whole host of status information. Standardised protocols for this data exchange are proposed and, to a certain extent, already are in use, making it easier for products from different manufacturers to talk each other efficiently and without problems. A common consequences of leaner organizational structures is the sacrifice or, at least, severe pruning, of in-house maintenance teams. This move is to some extent, justified by the greatly enhanced reliability of modern equipment. It does, however, create the requirement for 24-hour on-demand service and support. Given the central role, which drives play in most modern production equipment, drive suppliers will be among those called on to offer these services, either directly or via their authorized distributors and system builders. To summarise, the real question, which needs to be asked, is not what the drives of the millennium will look like, since the trends are already well established. It is much more meaningful to enquire about the attributes of the successful drive suppliers of the millennium since it is these attributes which will do most to determine the success of drive users projects.
Fortunately, the answers are straightforward. The successful suppliers will be customer-focussed, with a deep understanding not only of drive technology but also of customers needs. In addition, they will offer a full range of compatible components, to provide the convenience and security of a single source of supply. Finally, they will offer comprehensive support at every stage in the project cycle, from initial design to life time maintenance.
