These graphical tools, along with National Instruments Real-Time hardware, help design and test engineers perform rapid control prototyping (RCP) and hardware-in-loop (HIL) simulations. In RCP the control algorithm is tested along with the actual plant system by running it as part of a software model on the real-time prototyping hardware, whereas in HIL the actual controller hardware with the controller implementation is tested with a software model of the entire plant system.
Thus using these tools engineers can now evaluate and validate the discrete design components while developing a complex control system rather than testing it at the end of the design process.
