Motors
Automatic star-delta connector (ASDC)
When three-phase motor has a star-delta starter ASDC is fitted as instruments to sense the load current and if it is below set value, delta connection of phases is switched back to star. Thus phase voltage changes from 415 to 230V. The magnetizing current reduces at lower load and PF is improved. (9) A small amount of energy is also saved.
Soft start-cum-energy saver
· Continuously senses the load.
· Applies voltage automatically in accordance with load factor.
· Supplies energy needed to perform work.
· Smooth accelerating facilities.
· Proposed to install soft cum energy saver for identified Simplex machines (13) (CII-EMC suggested savings for soft starter for identified Simplex machines are detailed
Use of energy efficient motors in place of standard motors (13):
· Total number of ring frame machines - 90 nos.
· Continuous operation.
Wastage
Yarn production results in a variety of waste materials.
· Adopt good material handling practices.
· Educate the workers on the impact of waste on energy (explain the price of yarn and waste).
· Demonstration to the workers about waste saving methods.
Conclusion
In this article an attempt has been made to show the approach in identifying the operation in a spinning mill where significant energy savings might be achieved through suggested recommendations. Final decisions regarding the desirability of implementation of any process modification must be based upon analysis of all the costs required to achieve the anticipated savings.
Since in the spinning operations, humidification plant, lighting, and motors consume most of the energy all efforts have to be concentrated in reduction of energy losses. Evaluation of demand pattern, and properly scheduling the operations for various departments result in energy saving. Energy losses have to be measured and monitored for effective energy conservation program in a spinning mill.
Finally energy conservation activities should be carried out as a part of daily routine work without assignment for any person or outside party. It is the dedication of staff shouldering the added responsibility, which deserves applause for the immense energy saving, which can accrue as a result of their efforts.
